Gaming Industry in 2022: Viewership Trends & Game Content

With more time spent at home in 2020, gamers resorted to their Nintendo, Play station, and Xbox devices. Monthly digital console gamers experienced the most gain of any other gaming device, expanding by 6.3% from 2019.

The return to in-person employment, school, and other events will cause this surge to plateau in 2020, notwithstanding the growth of gaming consoles. In addition, gaming has changed significantly from the "hard-core" stereotype of players who spend 20+ hours a week on their digital console.

Even still, mobile phones are by far the most popular gaming device; in the US this year, there will be over 150 million monthly mobile players or more than 89% of all digital gamers. Mobile has an advantage over all other gaming technologies simply because users may play on their device whenever and wherever they choose a feature that laptops and game consoles do not offer.

Laptop and PC devices are other gaming platforms that act as a middle ground between practical mobile gaming technologies and more sophisticated console systems. According to a survey conducted in October 2021, 29% of players use a desktop or laptop to play video games.

Due to the significant increase in monthly digital gamers, the gaming industry is in a strong position. In 2021, customers spent an enormous $44 billion on gaming software and services. However, this gain won't stay for very long because in 2022, the number of monthly digital gamers is only predicted to rise by 1.1%.

A large portion of the audience that gaming attracted during the pandemic may lose interest once further social distance constraints are eliminated since more than half of the US population now plays video games on a regular basis.
